THINGS TO DO
Cabarete is really all about the beach, and what a beach it is !
During the daytime you can take a lazy dip in the ocean, relax on a sunlounger, have drinks brought right to your side, and have a fantastic choice of lunch opportunities from the many bars and restaurants.
In the afternoon, as the wind comes up a little, you can see the ocean come alive with brightly colored windsurfer sails. Eager beginners are well catered for by the many schools, whilst more challenging conditions can be found out towards the reef.
Cabarete usually hosts one round of the world championships during the month of June.
The beaches to the west of Cabarete have recently become a favored haunt of the kite-surfing community, not to forget the board surfers usually to be found around Hideaway
Beach.
In the evening, a relaxed sophistication comes to the fore, as the beachside restauarants
Offer an incredible variety of dining sensations, often with candlelight enhancing the romantic lapping of the waves at water’s edge. Try restaurant hopping, with a different course at each stop along your route !
If you do not want to stray far from home, there are a couple of local stores and a selection of good eateries within a 5 minute walk of the house.
Later still, try your luck at the Cabarete casino, or dance away the frustrations of your losses at their international disco.
Around 10 miles away is the town of Sosua, famed for its scuba and snorkeling,
as well as an even more pulsating nightlife .
Drive around 40 minutes to the east, and discover the superb links golf course
of Playa Grande, or by driving about the same distance to the west, try the Robert Trent Jones course in the purpose-built holiday village of Playa Dorada, where you can also
find a modern shopping plaza, English language cinema, and more casinos and discos.
For seekers of high speed thrills, there is a go-kart track, just before arriving at Playa
Dorada, as well as the chance to hire quadbikes or motorbikes to discover the lush vegetation and rivers in the hills behind Cabarete.
For a gentler exploration of this beautiful and varied island, you can also consider
hiring a car, taking a taxi for the day, or taking part in one of the many guided coach excursions or jeep safaris.
